Online contests have become an increasingly popular way to draw traffic to Web sites, but as the online community becomes larger and more sophisticated, companies are looking for games that begin to build a relationship between players and the sponsor. Yoyodyne Entertainment pres and founder Seth Godin believes that creating convent and quick games and contests that building a feeling of mastery for players is the key to the success of his company, which has developed more than 100 contests and games for clients.

Time Warner's Internet Service Provider Road Runner was introduced in Elmira, New York, in July, 1995, and has since garnered much attention from international onlookers. The service is geared to provide cable customers with high speed Internet access and local programming, to help differentiate the service from other Internet access services. Elmira was chosen as a test site because of its two-way information transfer cable system.
