A Mayan reading of the story of the stars
Article Abstract:
Fieldwork among contemporary Quiche Maya has shown the close relationship between the myths of the Popol Vuh and the movements of the stars. For example, the Quiche distinguish between two halves of the Milky Way, the Black Road and the Road of the Underworld, which the hero twins encounter in the Popol Vuh. The hero twins in the myth correspond to Venus, Seven Macaw represents the Big Dipper and the death of 400 boys corresponds to the setting of the Pleiades. A scorpion is shown in a vase painting at the base of a tree with Seven Macaw in its branches, corresponding to the positions of Scorpius, the Milky Way and the Big Dipper in December.

Protein translocation: how Hsp70 pulls it off
Article Abstract:
The heat shock 70 protein (Hsp70) helps maintain the translocation competence on the cytoplasmic side. The Hsp70 chaperone machines are critical to different processes. These include protein folding, disassembly of oligomers, protein degradation, and protein translocation. Two frameworks have been proposed for the role of organellar Hsp70 function in protein translocation. In addition, Hsp70 in the mitochondrial matrix promotes import directly that can be correlated by a trapping function.
