The early Middle Ages in history and archaeology
Article Abstract:
Archaeological studies on the early Middle Ages have been hindered by the widespread assumption on the insignificant amount of material culture that could be unearthed to shed light on the period. However, author Richard Hodges proposes an innovative way to overcome this limitation in his books on the monastery of San Vincenzo on the Volturno River. He presented a wealth of archaeological evidence that made possible the resurrection of the archaeological history of the monastery.
