Archaeology in Turkey
Article Abstract:
The Turkish Ministry of Culture's General Directorate of Monuments and Museums plays a key role in encouraging archeological research projects in the country. The annual meetings conducted by the directorate provides the directors of different projects the opportunity to present their findings during the excavation season. The meetings also help archaeologists assess their research in a broader context. A summary of ongoing archeological activities in Turkey is presented and a comprehensive bibliography on the subject is given.

Archaeology in Turkey
Article Abstract:
Turkish archaeology is experiencing an increase in the number of archaeological expeditions. Thus, complementary research on parallel issues is also expanding. For instance, Byzantine sites are used to be studied only for their architecture and art history, although recently, researchers have taken notice of their social and economic trasnformations. This increase in data regarding archaeology has opened the door for concerned efforts at synthesis where general studies and handbooks are more welcome in the archaeological field.

Archaeology in Turkey
Article Abstract:
Archaeological research in Turkey has gained momentum since 1993, especially under the guidance of the General Directorate of Monuments and Museums. Several aspects of the diachronic cultural map of Anatolia have received attention through surveys on established excavations and settlements. Despite research progress, certain periods such as the Roman period are being overlooked in favor of the Neolithic to Bronze Age phases.
