The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia has launched a fund raising campaign to finance the construction of a new collections storage and study wing. Called the East Wing, the proposed building will boast state-of-the-art storage equipment and innovations in climate control and is expected to provide benefits to the museum beyond the physical structure. Pollen grains in sands of time: lake sediments contribute to the archaeology of Thailand
Article Abstract:
A palynologist describes efforts to determine the historical impact of human beings on the environment in Thailand by studying the pollen counts in earth sediments. Studying samples from 6500 years ago, the author finds a decrease in pollen and an increase in charcoal, suggesting activities of a prehistoric human settlement earlier than previous studies have noted.
