Is the mask a hoax?
Article Abstract:
The gold masks discovered by archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann may be forgeries for several reasons. The masks differ stylistically from all other recovered Mycenaean masks, and were an extraordinary find for a single locale. Schliemann's poor reputation also casts doubt on the veracity of the artifacts, as he had previously been accused of, and had admitted to, planting objects he later claimed to have found.

The case for authenticity
Article Abstract:
Accusations against Heinrich Schliemann for faking the discovery of five gold masks are not supported by archaeological evidence. Although Schliemann has been accused of planting several artifacts he later claimed to have found, no tangible proof exists that these rumors are true. The masks also conform stylistically to Mycenaean rhytons located at the same site.

Behind the mask of Agamemnon: is Schliemann's famous find a modern-day forgery?
Article Abstract:
Debate continues regarding the identification of five gold face masks discovered in a tomb by Heinrich Schliemann. While some archaeologists support Schliemann's claim that they belong to Agamemnon and other chieftains immortalized in Ancient Greek literature, others argue that they belong to unknown individuals or may even be forgeries.
