Leonard V. Quigley
Article Abstract:
Leonard V. Quigley is recognized by the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) for his long service as General Counsel at the institute by giving him the 1996 Award for Distinguished Service. Quigley has been with AIA for 18 years giving legal counsel and sage advice free of charge. He has been involved in activities such as reviewing the drafts of the revisions of the institute's bylaws, analyzing the personnel policies that regulate the conditions of employment of AIA staff and monitor the formulation of the Code of Professional Standards.

W. David Kingery
Article Abstract:
W. David Kingery, Regents Professor of the Anthropology and of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Arizona, is the recipient of the 1996 Pomerance Award of the Archaeological Institute of America for scientific contributions to archaeology. He has been given such award because of his contributions to the study of ancient technology, archaeology and art history that created a better understanding of the role of technology, technological innovation and technology transfer in ancient societies.

Wilhelmina F. Jashemski
Article Abstract:
Wihelmina F. Jashemski is the recipient of the 1996 Archaeological Institute of America's Award for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement. She has been chosen because of her work with the investigation of ancient gardens, which was a new field in ancient studies that was created by her. Thus, she has been involved in archaeological excavations at Pompeii, Bocoreale and Oplontis form 1961 to 1983 and has directed the diggings at Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli and at Thuburbo Maius in Tunisia.
