Lost and found fragments of Egyptian wisdom
Article Abstract:
'Instructions' are a form of ancient Egyptian literature that first appeared in the Old Kingdom (2625-2130). This literary form, which is also referred to as 'wisdom literature,' flourished for over 2,000 years. Typically, 'instructions' took the form of an address from a father to a son, usually providing moral and ethical guidelines for living. One of the best-known Egyptian instructions is a document known as the Papyrus Insinger, which contains 800 maxims grouped in single-line sentences from numbered chapters. Two fragments of this document were identified in the late 1970s.
