Shrine models as signatures of architectural experimentation
Article Abstract:
The remains of temples built between the 6th and 11th centuries in the Salt Range along the Indus River record models of shrines as niches on their walls. The architects of the temples had a large number of models to draw upon and they often indulged in architectural innovations. Most of the models recorded are those of earlier local experiments with Nagara architectural formulas and they focus on the nature of the temple's superstructure.

There is joy in Mudville: in the spring, one man's fancy turns to thoughts of dirt
Article Abstract:
A gardener extolls his love for dirt, the earth substance which gives us our food. Expressions such as 'mean as dirt,' and 'dirt poor,' reflect the Old Norse root of the word dirt, which meant excrement. Yet without soil there is no food. We wash food, but the basic dirt will always be a part of it.
