Massimo Pallottino, 1909-1995
Article Abstract:
Massimo Pallottino was considered as the dean and modern founder of Etruscan studies. Etruscan studies became an independent field mainly because of his book 'Etruscologia.' Although he was regarded as Italy's greatest living archaeologist, Pallottino preferred to be known as a historian of ancient Italy. He was the president of the Istituto di Studi Etruschi ed Italici and was an Honorary Foreign Member of the Archaeological Institute of America. He died in his sleep in Feb. 7, 1995. He was 85 years old.
