Brave new world revisited: how the design experts of 1988 got the future wrong
Article Abstract:
News designers that met during the American Press Institute in 1988 to predict how newspaper design will look like by the turn of the millennium. Some of the predictions were close to the truth, as in one design where the newspaper can be read using a computer and can be turn from one page to another by pressing some on-screen icons. Other designs included the prediction of the popularity or portable computers while other contain predictions of future headlines.

Article Abstract:
The newspaper publishers in 1996 were compared to the dictators in Russia and these comparisons warn journalists of the importance of avoiding change before problems arise. Internet was one thing that has caught the attention of journalists that provides immediate gratification until other problems caught their concerns such as the declining newspaper circulation and number of readers and exit of advertisers.
