Article Abstract:
The typographical design of broadsheet newspapers in the UK could be improved to increase their readability. Insufficient research has been carried out into what the reader requires. The Independent newspaper, brought out in 1986, has changed its format for what is generally considered the worst. It has become more complicated in layout. According to Matthew Symonds, this is to extend the editorial foundations of the newspaper.
