Into the mirror

Article Abstract:

'Design, Miroir du Siecle', at the Grand Palais, Paris, France, is a confused and irreverent design exhibition which is intended to be a retrospective of industrial production from 1850. The exhibition contains more than 1,600 objects, which are supposed to be everyday items shown in an ordinary context. However, everything is either shut up in glass boxes or roped off. The exhibition is based on the idea that design is the 'mirror of the century', but if this is so, it seems to suggest that the period represented could be a closed book.

Manifeste

Article Abstract:

The Pompidou Centre's exhibition, entitled 'Manifeste' is held until Sep 9, 1992 and is the first display of the newly appointed Pres Dominique Bozo. Bozo has stated his intention to extend the influence of Beaubourg to include 'l'art plastique' in all its forms. He wishes to concentrate on companies that have changed directions in design and developed a good design policy. In reality it has led to an unbalanced collection and various companies have been disproportionately represented.
