The best student design of the year

Article Abstract:

Entries to the 1997 College Newspaper Design Contest reflect the strong potential of undergraduate designers. The rise of modularity: It's hip to be square

Article Abstract:

The daily Christian Science Monitor a broadsheet redesigned in 1965 offered six wise columns, as opposed to the standard narrow eight columns and was modular. The rationale for a modular layout is that readers prefer the organization and lack of clutter that modules provide and modules show relationships among stories, pictures and graphics.
