Walt Disney Feature Animation Northside
Article Abstract:
DMJM Rottet successfully transformed a former aerospace facility into an animation studio that serves both innovative and traditional animation techniques with its work on Walt Disney Co's four-story Northside building. The studio's design is a departure from that of its first animation building, which deftly used the imagery of Mickey Mouse and Disney's first successes. This time, design principal Lauren Rottet tailored the design to the technological needs of a computer-based digital animation environment and the creative collaboration among Disney animators.

Disney animation
Article Abstract:
Architect Robert A.M. Stern created a whimsical design for the Disney feature Animation Building that was inspired by Walt Dsiney Co.'s animated films. The entrance holds the viewer with its conical magician's hat that serves as the office of Roy Disney. Meanwhile, the south side echoes the streamlined bodies of trains brightly colored in orange and red. The working areas allow constant interaction among animators, with facilities for post-production and screening activities.

Video facility
Article Abstract:
Inconstant staff requirements and varying space needs were the primary considerations that informed System Design's concept for the RSA-USA production studio in Beverly Hills, CA. They provided the facility with a flexible working space for as many as six working production crews and added editing and support facilities. A wooden vault ceiling features a skylight that illuminates the interior surfaces of steel, wood and concrete.
