The lifeblood of the NHS
Article Abstract:
The National Health Service's training program, which is funded largely by public organizations, will change the role of health care professionals in the future. The factors influencing the greater emphasis on training and education include demographic changes, costly changes to nursing education, and a greater similarity between academic and professional qualifications. The probable changes in professional roles during the 1990s include a shift in the nursing skill mix toward non-professionally qualified personnel, a more drastic change in the skill mix of smaller professions such as therapy, and a decrease in specialization.
