Bankruptcy fears over medical negligence
Article Abstract:
The National Association of Health Authorities and Trusts (NAHAT) is concerned that a large number of hospitals will encounter serious financial difficulties due to the increasing number of medical negligence payments. The problem was triggered by changes in the insurance system in Apr 1991, which shifted the payments of medical negligence insurance to the hospitals. Alternative proposals to the current insurance system have been presented to the NAHAT, including a staggered payment system to be paid during the injured patient's lifetime.
