Congress on Research in Dance annual conference

Article Abstract:

The joint conference held by the Congress on Research in Dance (CORD) and Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) in Aug 1992, explored a wide range of issues as is indicated by the varied panel discussions. 'Native American Perspectives and Influence,' 'Deconstruction, Reconstruction and Contextualization,' 'Eastern Aesthetics and Dance Theatre Traditions' and 'Cultural Vantage Points and Teaching' were among the panels presented. There was a workshop on a southern Thailand dance form, lakon jatri manohara and an award ceremony honoring George Beiswanger. The collaboration between CORD and ATHE allowed for interesting explorations of dance-theater performances.

Taipei International Dance Conference and International Festival of Dance Academies

Article Abstract:

The Taipei International Dance Conference and International Festival of Dance Academies, hosted by National Institute of the Arts and Cloud Gate Dance Foundation in Jul 1992, presented papers and lecture-demonstrations on 'New Trend in Dance.' Participants from different continents discussed the innovations that have been made to traditional dance forms and the creation of modern forms. The morning theory sessions and the evening performances together brought alive the various dance traditions. The in-depth analysis of the different dances made for true cultural exchange.

National Dance Association conference

Article Abstract:

The National Dance Assn. held a meeting focusing on the need for reform in dance education. Speakers related techniques they used to enhance their dance classes, such as writing, T'ai chi, Laban technique and Bartenieff technique. Other speakers called for the use of non-traditional techniques that integrate methods from other cultures, the relevance of dance in US society, and the need for research in Canada.
