The enclosed world
Article Abstract:
The Hutterite community avoids the modern world, embracing their religion, heritage, and sense of unity with the earth. Living on large farms and ranches, the strongly pacifist colonies of Hutterite people maintain an orderly and strict lifestyle similar to the Amish and Mennonites. Members avoid many modern conveniences, speak in a German dialect, and educate their children in the moral and spiritual codes of the community. Hard work and a communal lifestyle are key to their economic and spiritual existence. All goods and profits from the sale of goods are shared equally for colony expenses.

American Roma: the hidden gypsy world
Article Abstract:
The Romani people or Gypsies have maintained their culture, spirituality and language, despite widespread discrimination and assimilation attempts through out history. Strong family bonds and avoidance of non-Romani people have contributed to the Romani sense of spiritual harmony. Coming to the US from Europe, and originating in India the Romani people have no claim to a specific country. Their transient lifestyle, dark skin, and cultural differences have led to harassment and stereotyping. Preservation of their values and traditions have contributed to their continued survival.

This world is not my home
Article Abstract:
Mennonite families who migrated to Mexico suffer economic and social hardships. Unable to support themselves and be true to their religious beliefs, many Mexican Mennonites are forced to seek seasonal farm work in Canada and the US.
