The northern spring of Roerich's several "Sacres"
Article Abstract:
Russian painter Nicholas Roerich designed the costumes for the 1910 groundbreaking ballet, "Le Sacre du Printemps," which contained a score by Igor Stravinsky. Roerich changed the design several times between 1910 and the 1940s, as he gained experience, traveled to other cultures, and reinterpreted the primitive meaning of the dance. Roerich was particularly influenced by the American Southwest and India.
