The National Space Society (NSS) activist community has been held together by chapter-run International Space Development Conferences and regional conferences. Chapter Awards, Special Merit Awards and Meritorious Service Awards are presented to active chapters as the crown jewels of the NSS.

National Space Society's 1999 Chapter Awards
Article Abstract:
The 1999 National Space Society (NSS) Chapter Excellence Award's Chapter of the Year was given to NSS's Wichita Chapter and the Explorer Award was given to the Oregon L5 Society. These are the highest awards a chapter can receive for achievements that demonstrate the visions of the NSS.

HALO student achievement program
Article Abstract:
The Huntsville Alabama L5 Society chapter of NSS began the HALO Program which has an educational side, a technical side and an achievement side. The various components of the program, including the elementary, middle and high school programs and other elements, are described.
