Mounds of evidence support active sand dunes and ancient lava lakes on Mars
Article Abstract:
Photographs taken by the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft show signs of active sand dunes in the vicinity of the planet's northern regions. Lava lakes measuring hundreds of kilometers in width have also been photographed at Mars' Elysium Basin.

NASA's Mars Odyssey spacecraft will be the first to set leave port over the next few years in an armada of spacecraft sailing to the Red Planet. It will launch on April 7 aboard a Delta II rocket and arrive at Mars on October 20, 2001.
