Return to the Martian surface

The Mars 94/96 mission, which is spearheaded by Russia, is a 19-nation exploratory observation of the planet's surface and atmosphere. The mission involves two launches, one in Oct, 1994 and another in Nov, 1996. Various instruments and detectors such as the French balloon and the Russian rover will be transported to the planet during the mission.

Pioneering Mars
Article Abstract:
The knowledge of identifying and using indigenous resources to survive in explorations can be applied in future Martian colonization. A Mars Direct plan that combines current Earth technologies with known Martian resources provides scientists a way of studying possible human settlements on Mars.
