The conversion of a 1983 Mazda RX-7 to a race car, qualified to participate in the Sports Car Club of America's Improved Touring class, is described. Conversion steps included removal of the asphalt sound-deadening, installation of a rollcage, and selection of a new steering wheel.

Article Abstract:

The project to convert a 1983 Mazda RX-7 to a racing car continues with a renovation of the car's Wankel engine. The engine has an excellent racing history and was therefore promising, despite its 100,000 miles of use. Cleaning and alteration of the engine are described.

Article Abstract:

The Mazda RX-7 would go faster if its suspension and braking systems are modified. A complete Improved Touring suspension kit, wheels and radials and brakes should be installed for the car to meet the Sports Car Club of America's standards for race cars.
