Article Abstract:

Five compact pickup trucks are compared for power, fuel economy and safety, among other things. The trucks' ability to haul cargo efficiently beds is also evaluated. The vehicles competing are Toyota Tacoma, Dodge Dakota, Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier and Chevy S-10, with the Dodge taking first place.

Toyota's Rav4 is a hybrid car-truck with a price point in the entry-level sport utility range occupied by the Kia Sportage. A 13-month, 40,000-mile road test reveals well-balanced handling and comfortable passenger and cargo area, but indicates that Toyota might want to consider a V-6 model.

Long-term Jeep Grand Cherokee

Article Abstract:

A 1992 Grand Cherokee had only a few minor problems during a long-term test. A rear hatch latch that broke and a faulty speedometer sensor were replaced under warranty. Only $213 in regular maintenance costs was needed over 35,000 miles.
