The $140 Bel Laseralert LA132 rated the best among three laser detectors in key areas such as off-axis detection. The second place $129 Cobra Laser LD-200 does not detect laser beams from the side as well. The $99 Escort Passport 100 Laser was last.

Six detectors from major manufacturers are assessed for their range, sensitivity and selectivity in detecting radar and lidar. The Valentine One ($399) received the top rating, followed by the Bel 855STi ($219-$299).
