Dr David Stafford-Clark
Article Abstract:
Psychiatrist David Stafford-Clark studied Medicine at London University and Guy's Hospital, qualifying in 1939. He served with the RAF during the second world war and trained as a medical parachutist. His contact with stress and mental trauma during this time encouraged him to specialize in psychiatry, and he trained at the Institute of Psychiatry and the Maudsley. He became head of psychological medicine and Director of the York Clinic at Guy's in 1954. He was to have a very significant impact on overall approaches to mental illness in the UK.
