Corvette GTR by Specter Werkes/Sports Inc

Specter Werkes/Sports Inc has modified a C5 Corvette to produce the $100,734 Corvette GTR which achieves 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and travels one quarter of a mile in 13.0 seconds. What is remarkable about this car is that it manages to grip the road when one shifts the gears at 80 mph.

Where no man has gone before: the two biggest names in land-speed records are at it again, shooting for a sonic boom

Two automobile racing teams, headed by Richard Noble and Craig Breedlove, will attempt to break the sound barrier on land in the fall of 1996. This would mean exceeding 760 mph. The two cars to be used, the Thrust SSC, and the Spirit of America, are described.
