Growing a new antidepressant
Article Abstract:
BrainCells Inc's search for a potential new drug to stimulate neurogenesis similar to the way Prozac and other drugs act on animal brains led to the screening of 539 compounds on countless neural stem cells, resulting in a compound called BCI540. BrainCells is planning to conduct Phase IIA clinical trials on BCI540's efficacy as an antidepressant after the company obtains funds for the same and expects to launch it in the market by 2008.
