A chemosensory gene family encoding candidate gustatory and olfactory receptors in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the gustatory receptors identified in the Drosophila genome searches. The hybridization and the transgene experiments have been carried out and the results of the experiments revealing the expression of these genes in gustatory and olfactory neurons of the lavrae and adult flies inducate that this gene family encodes both odorant and taste receptors.

X inactivation of the OCNC1 channel gene reveals a role for activity-dependent competition in the olfactory system

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the olfactory neuronal system organization dependent on the activity between the cells. Results indicate that the odorants and the activity they evoke are critical for the neuronal survival and that the X-linked OCNC1 channel subunit is essential for the odorant-evoked activity.

The CaMKII UNC-43 activates the MAPKKK NSY-1 to execute a lateral signaling decision required for asymmetric olfactory neuron fates

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the stochastic cell fate decision which is mediated by axon contact and calcium signaling causing symmetric AWC neurons to express the candidate olfactory receptor str-2. The results of the mosaic analysis indicate that UNC-43 and NSY-1 repress str-2 expression in the AWC cell.
