A multi-locus assessment of connectivity and historical demography in the bluehead wrasse (Thalassoma bifasciatum)

Article Abstract:

The population genetics of bluehead wrasse (Thalassoma bifasciatum) is used for examining the interface between independent sources of data, as well as testing for genetic differentiation in a reef fish with both a high potential for dispersal through a long pelagic larval stage and a propensity for local recruitment. The genetic variations have provided a link between ecological and evolutionary studies and have also described the processes that act to segregate genetic variation in the sea.

Multiple paternity in the leafcutter ant Atta colombica - a microsatellite DNA study

Article Abstract:

A microsatellite DNA study of multiple paternity in the leafcutter ant Atta colombica is discussed. Results confirm earlier nongentic sudies which found high levels of multiple mating by queens in higher leafcutter ants. These results are related to known patterns of paternity and polyandry in other eusocial Hymenoptera.

Variation in genomic recombination rates among animal taxa and the case of social insects

Article Abstract:

Genome-wide recombination rates among different taxa are compared with the new genetic data. It is demonstrated that social hymenoptera are characterized by unusually high recombination densities.
