A proteinaceous gene regulatory thermometer in Salmonella
Article Abstract:
The genetic characteristics of the novel TlpA protein was analyzed to characterize its thermosensing capacity in bacterial cells. Analysis of transcriptional fusion activity after the induction of tlpA in bacterial cells indicated the role of the protein as a novel gene regulator that exhibited a built-in thermosensing capacity. The sensor-regulator activity of TlpA was also based on a monomer-to-coiled-coil equilibrium which represented a unique adaptation of the coiled-structure for the regulation of gene function.

Holliday junctions accumulate in replication mutants via a RecA homolog-independent mechanism
Article Abstract:
The Saccharomyces cerevisiae ribosomal DNA array was analyzed to detect the presence of Holliday junctions in mitotic cells. Analysis of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae ribosomal DNA fragments indicated the presence of xDNA molecules that possessed the predictive properties of Holliday junctions. Furthermore, the levels of Holliday junctions was dependent onthe presence of RAD52 homologs of RecA in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Bacterial genomics and pathogen evolution
Article Abstract:
Comparative genomics and genomic tools are used to identify virulence factors and genes involved in environmental persistence of pathogens. It is believed that bacterial genomics will drive a new era of therapeutic discovery by combining high-throughput methods of chemistry and screening with similarly high-throughput methods of genetic analysis and target discovery.
