Accelerated sulfur cycle in coastal marine sediment beneath areas of intensive shellfish aquaculture

Article Abstract:

Prokaryotes in marine sediments taken from two neighboring semienclosed bays, Yamada and Kamaishi at the Sanriku coast in Japan were investigated. Information obtained from these studies were combined and suggested that sulfate reduction is the most important electron-accepting process for organic matter decomposition in coastal and condtinental shelf sediments.

Molecular characterization of resistance-nodulation-division transporters from solvent- and drug-resistant bacteria in petroleum-contaminated soil

Article Abstract:

The PCR assays were developed for analyzing resistance-nodulation-division transporters from solvent- and drug-resistant bacteria in the soil. The sequence analysis of amplicons showed that the PCR successfully retrieved transporter gene fragments from soils and competitive PCR showed that the abundance of PCS genes is increased in petroleum-contaminated soil.

Molecular characterization of bacterial populations in petroleum-contaminated groundwater discharged from underground crude oil storage cavities

Article Abstract:

Petroleum-contaminated groundwater from crude oil storage cavities contains many bacteria that do not occur in normal groundwater. Many belong to the Proteobacteria, according to researchers who used PCR to identify 28 different 16S ribosomal DNA sequences.
