Aerobic growth of escherichia coli with 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) as the sole nitrogen source and evidence of TNT denitration by whole cells and cell-free extracts
Article Abstract:
The denitration of 2,4,6-trinitrotololuene (TNT) is investigated under nongrowing conditions, the kinetics of TNT denitration by E.coli are determined and TNT denitrated metabolics are identified. The use of TNT as sole nitrogen source by E.coli and unequivocal evidence of TNT denitration by E.coli is reported and formation of particular denitrated compounds is confirmed.

Immobilization of cells with surface-displayed chitin-binding domain
Article Abstract:
A tripartite gene fusion consisting of an in-frame fusion of chitin-binding domain (ChBD) to lpp and ompA was constructed and expressed in Escherichia coli to explore ChBD-based cell immobilization. ChBD-displayed cells exhibited highly specific and stable binding to chitin within a wide range of pHs and temperatures.

Damage in Escherichia coli cells treated with a combination of high hydrostatic pressure and subzero temperature
Article Abstract:
The relationship between membrane permeability, changes in ultrastructure, and inactivation in Escherichia coli strain K-12TG1 cells subjected to high hydrostatic pressure treatment at room and subzero temperatures is studied. The inactivation of E.coli cells occurs mainly during their transiently permeabilized state.
