Albinism in a Suffolk sheep

Article Abstract:

A second form of true albinism was documented in Suffolk sheep by phenotype, genetic and histochemical analyses. The albinism, inherited like an autosomal recessive, did not show any apparent serious undesirable side effects. Histochemical studies showed that a defect in melanin synthesis occurs with prevention ofconversion of tyrosine to dopa without affecting the subsequent reactions producing melanin. The albinism may have arose from a gene in the C locus that encodes a defectve tyrosinase.

The inheritance of albinism in a freshwater snail Physa heterostropha

Article Abstract:

A study was done on the inheritance of albinism in a freshwater snail, Physa heterostropha. It was shown that albinism is inherited through two recessive, nonallelic genes, F2 dihybrid progeny which showed the 9:7 ratio associated with the reciprocal recessive epistasis between unlinked foci. It was further shown that despite the preponderance of albinism in laboratory populations of freshwater snails, the trait is rare in natural populations.
