Anaerobic mineralization of quaternary carbon atoms: isolation of denitrifying bacteria on pivalic acid (2,2-dimethylpropionic acid)

Article Abstract:

Research shows that pivalic acid is mineralized to carbon dioxide by the degradation activity of many facultative denitrifying and a nitrate-reducing bacteria. The anaerobic catabolic pathways may occur via an oxidation of pivalic acid to dimethylmalonate or via rearrangement of a carbon skeleton mediated by the putative 2,2-dimethylpropionyl coenzyme A mutase.

Anaerobic mineralization of quaternary carbon atoms: isolation of denitrifying bacteria on dimethylmalonate

Article Abstract:

Researchers report five denitrifying strains of bacteria that can degrade compounds with a quaternary carbon atom in the absence of oxygen. Two strains belong to the alpha-Proteobacteria and three belong to the beta-Proteobacteria.

Geranic acid formation, an initial reaction of anaerobic monoterpene metabolism in denitrifying Alcaligenes defragrans

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the monoterpenes with unsaturated hydrocarbon structure. Results indicate the presence of the monoterpene degradation pathway in Alcaligenes defragrans.
