Analysis of segregation data from selfed progeny of allopolyploids

Article Abstract:

The inference of parental genotype based on segregation data from selfed progeny of allopolyploids when there is incomplete information about genotypes and when alleles are codominant or null is discussed. The distinct alleles present in a genotype are assumed known, but the frequency of their occurrence is not. SELF, a computer program that can generate all possible parental genotypes and rank them based on agreement with progeny data is described. Data from a study of the inheritance of isoenzymes in selfed progeny of octoploid strawberry cultivars is used as an example.

Artificial populations

Article Abstract:

Artificial populations and mating systems of diploid and allotetraploid populations of Tragopogon (Asteraceae), a neopolyploid, have been studied. Findings combined with those of the previous work on wild populations indicated that mating systems in the species vary more among populations than between ploidal levels, perhaps because of the relatively late origins of the tetraploid species.

Mating systems of diploid and allotetraploid populations of Tragopogon (Asteraceae), part 1: natural populations

Article Abstract:

Population genetic theory suggests tetraploid populations should have lower outcrossing rates than diploid populations. Research with the mating systems of Tragopogon species has, however, shown the opposite is true. Causes for this result may be in the taxa's natural histories or too little time since the polyploid formed.
