Bias in the Listeria monocytogens enrichment procedure: Lineage 2 strains outcompete lineage 1 strains in University of Vermont selective enrichments

Article Abstract:

The study demonstrates that one of the common selective enrichment procedures used for the detection of Listeria monocytogens in foods may not result in an equal representation of the subtypes of L. monocytogens present in a food sample. The result indicates that the selective procedures used for isolation of L. monocytogens may not allow a true representation of the types present in foods.

Culture conditions of Roseobacter strain 27-4 affect its attachment and biofilm formation as quantified by real-time PCR

Article Abstract:

Roseobacter strain 27-4 attaches to and forms a biofilm on inert surfaces and this attachment of Roseobacter strain 27-4 is quantified using a direct real-time PCR method. It is revealed that the amount of biofilm is highly influenced by the culture conditions of the organisms and is linked to the ability of the bacterium to grow in a rosette-like fashion.

Ecology, inhibitory activity, and morphogenesis of a marine antagonistic bacterium belonging to the Roseobacter clade

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to demonstrate that the supernatant of Roseobacter 27-4 is lethal to the larval pathogens Vibro anguillarum and Vibrio splendidus in a buffer system and inhibited their growth in marine broth. Roseobacter strain 27-4 is isolated from a turbot larval rearing unit and is capable of reducing mortality in turbot egg yolk sac larvae.
