Boty, a long-terminal-repeat retroelement in the phytopathogenic fungus Botrytis cinerea
Article Abstract:
Investigation of the genetic diversity in the phytopathogenic fungus Botrytis cinerea reveals the presence of an element Boty, throughout the genome of a few of its isolates. Boty contains direct, long-terminal repeats of 596 bp, as revealed by DNA sequence analysis. The sequences of an open reading frame in Boty exhibit homology to the reverse transcriptase and RNase H domains of retroelement pol genes, indicating Boty as a retroelement. Strains isolated from grapes and tomatoes have Boty, but it is absent in the isolates of lentils.

Optimization of terminal-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis for complex marine bacterioplankton communities and comparison with denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis
Article Abstract:
Terminal-restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) and the detection of operational taxonomic units by capillary electrophoresis may be more accurate than denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis in analyzing marine bacterioplankton. This was the conclusion of researchers who compared both techniques on samples from the Northern and Middle Adriatic Sea and the South and North Aegean Sea.

Terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis program, a Web-based research tool for microbial community analysis
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe a tool at the Ribosomal Database Project web site that allows researchers to determine the optimal primer and restriction enzymes for microbial community analysis. It is based on the sequence of 16S rRNA.
