Characterization of ichthyocidal activity of Pfiesteria piscicida: Dependence on the dinospore cell density

Article Abstract:

The ichthyocidal activity of Pfiesteria pisciscida dinospores in a controlled laboratory setting, using the standard aquarium bioassay format, to gain insight into possible icthyocidal mechanisms is examined. The vitro exposure of fish larvae to clonal Pfiesteria pisciscida indicates that fish mortality was directly proportional to the dinospore cell density.

Development of real-time PCR assays for rapid detection of Pfiesteria piscicida and related dinoflagellates

Article Abstract:

Researchers describe a real-time, PCR-based assay for detecting the Pfiesteria piscicida and P. shumwayae in water samples. These two dinoflagellates are associated with algal blooms that adversely impact the health of fish and humans along the East Coast.

Effects of biotic and abiotic factors on in vitro proliferation, encystment, and excystment of Pfiesteria piscicida

Article Abstract:

A clonal culture of Pfiesteria piscicida and new environmental isolates are used to describe the growth characteristics, feeding and factors contributing to the encystment and germination of the organism in both laboratory and environmental samples.
