Chthoniobacter flavus gen. nov., sp. nov., the first pure-culture representative of subdivision two, Spartobacteria classis nov., of the phylum Verrucomicrobia
Article Abstract:
The strain Ellin428 (28), the first known pure culture representative of soil bacteria is isolated and the phenotypic properties of this isolate are reported. These cells are yellow, rod-shaped, nonmotile, and gram-stain negative and they contain peptidoglycan and this isolate grows well at 25 degree Celsius on a variety of standard biological media, including some used in the routine cultivation of bacteria from soil.

Laboratory cultivation of widespread and previously uncultured soil bacteria
Article Abstract:
Collections of 350 isolates from soil were cultured by using simple solid media in petri dishes. The findings state that many of the bacteria are readily culturable. The isolation also allows investigation of the properties of these novel bacteria.
