Combined light microscopy and attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for integration of biofilm structure, distribution, and chemistry at solid-liquid interfaces

Article Abstract:

Complementary data on chemical and structural properties of biofilms are collected using reflected differential interference contrast microscopy and attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Nondestructive, nearly simultaneous and real time data collection is employed to allow the determination of temporal relationships among population structure, microbial distribution and interface chemistry in biofilm microbial communities.

Quality control of bacterial enumeration

Article Abstract:

Recommendations for the types of quality control for testing of water and wastewater for bacterial suspensions are enumerated. Test method performance and recovery inhibition during water sample analysis can be evaluated by standard bacterial suspensions. It is emphasized that the accuracy of microbiological data increases with the inclusion of quality control in the daily analytical programs undertaken.

Evaluation of agar plates for direct enumeration of Campylobacter spp. from poultry carcass rinses

Article Abstract:

Campy-line agars are evaluated for their efficiency to isolate and enumerate Campylobacter spp. from poultry carcass rinses. Campy-Cefex and its modification produced the best results but were statistically similar to Campy, mCCDA, and Karmali.
