Comparative serology of the marine fish pathogen Vibrio anguillarum
Article Abstract:
The marine fish pathogen Vibrio anguillarum has 16 different serotypes, O1 to O16, that have different polysaccharide banding patterns. Three of the serotypes occur globally and two cause most of the fish infections. The serotypes are identified and separated using sodium-dedecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and silver staining of purified lipopolysaccharides (LPS), immunoblotting and agglutination with polyclonal rabbit antisera. The LPS bands of each of the serotypes are the same and have no dependence on the origin of the strain.

Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis analysis of the response of Pseudomonas putida KT2442 to 2-chlorophenol
Article Abstract:
Two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) provides a global view of the changes in protein concentrations that occur in bacteria in response to chemical stress. Cultures of Pseudomonas putida were exposed to 1.63 mM of 2-chlorophenol and 2D-PAGE was carried out after 45, 65 and 95 minutes. Four categories for the changes in protein concentrations were established: continuous increase, decrease, concentration peak, and unaffected.

Use of pulsed-field gel electrophoresis for epidemiological study of Escherichia coli O157:H7 during a food-borne outbreak
Article Abstract:
Escherichia coli O157:H7 is a major health problem. Analysis of 39 food and patient isolate strains of Escherichia coli O157:H7 shows that pulse-field gel electrophoresis is a suitable technique for confirming epidemiological implicated source and differentiating between sporadic and outbreak strains.
