Detection of Enterobacter sakazakii in dried infant milk formula by cationic-magnetic-bead capture

Article Abstract:

Contaminated infant milk formula (IMF) has been implicated in cases of Enterobacter sakazakii, which is a cause of life threatening infections in low-birth-weight infants. A method of combining charged separation and growth on selective agar to detect enterobacter sakazakii in IMF is developed which is quick and sensitive and will positively contribute towards risk reduction across the infant formula food chain.

Genetic diversity of hydrogen-producing bacteria in an acidophilic ethanol-[H.sub.2]-coproducing system, analyzed using the [Fe]-hydrogenase gene

Article Abstract:

Genomic evidence is provided for the presence of novel [H.sub.2]-producing bacteria (HPB) in acidophilic ethanol-[H.sub.2]-coproducing communities that are enriched by using molasses wastewater. The studies have shown that the microbial ecology of mesophilic and acidophilic [H.sub.2] fermentation has involved many bacteria along with Clostridiumd and Enterobacteria.

Development of multiple-locus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis for the molecular subtyping of Enterobacter sakazakii

Article Abstract:

A multiple-locus variable-number tandem repeat (VNTR) analysis (MLVA) strategy is developed for the subtyping of Enterobacter sakazakii. This method is relatively fast and easy to perform and it can also be used as an epidemiological tool.
