Discrimination of modes of action of antifungal substances by use of metabolic footprinting

Article Abstract:

Studies are conducted to know whether metabolic footprinting of strains treated with different pharmaceuticals may also be used in discriminating the modes of action of different substances. Results demonstrate that the metabolic footprints of wild-type strains treated with inhibitors with different modes of action contain sufficient information to allow such modes of action to be discriminated from the metabolic footprints alone.

Differentiation of Micromonospora isolates from a coastal sediment in Wales on the basis of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 16S rRNA sequence analysis, and the amplified fragment length polymorphism technique

Article Abstract:

The use of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) to characterize 20 coastal sediment isolates putatively identified by morphological and cultural characteristics like Micromonospora is discussed. Although presently FT-IR cannot be used alone for microbial classification due to extensive microbial databases do not currently exist, FT-IR will become a very valuable first step in microbial screening programs.

High-throughput metabolic fingerprinting of legume silage fermentations via fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and chemometrics

Article Abstract:

A study about how a metabolic fingerprinting approach can be applied to studies of model fermentation dynamics in red clover to identify the presence of an inoculation and to discriminate between the effects of different LAB inoculants over time is presented. The results of three experiments studying grass and red clover juice fermentation in response to inoculation with a range of different LAB are reported.
