Distribution and fine-scale spatial-genetic structure in British wild cherry (Prunus avium L.)

Article Abstract:

Polymorphic simple sequence repeat loci are used to investigate the impact of asexual recruitment, management regime and tree size on the development of spatial-genetic structure (SGS) in wild cherry (Prunus avium L). The results have shown that the neighborhood size estimates are relatively small for both populations and kinship coefficients have declined with distance under both management regimes, suggesting common mechanisms might restrict the gene dispersal in wild cherry.

EST-SSRs as a resource for population genetic analyses

Article Abstract:

The transferability of expressed sequence tag (EST)-simple-sequence repeats (SSRs) from one taxon to another is studied with particular reference to the potential of these markers to facilitate population genetic studies. EST-SSRs have offered a number of benefits, including rapid and inexpensive development and high levels of cross-taxon portability, and have facilitated evolutionary analyses in a wide variety of taxa.

Evolution of MHC class IIB in the genome of wild and ornamental guppies, Poecilia reticulata

Article Abstract:

The evolution of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) is not completely understood though several theories attempt to explain it. A first-ever study was undertaken to quantify genomic sequence variation of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in wild and ornamental guppies, 'Poecilia reticulata', and its findings are discussed.
