Do deleterious mutations act synergistically? metabolic control theory provides a partial answer
Article Abstract:
The metabolic control theory was used and presented in mathematical models to explain the effect two deleterious mutations on the synergystic dynamics of a metabolic pathway. Two mutations work synergistically in the activity reduction of the same enzyme. When the two mutations act on different enzymes, however, it is dependent on the determination of fitness, the number of mutations plot that defines antagonistic and synergistic interactions, on the pathway.

N-terminal mutations modulate yeast SNF1 protein kinase function
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine a mutation of an SNF1 protein kinase function. SNF1-G53R was isolated as an SNF4 suppressor. The study assumes that SNF1 protein kinase is needed for glucose-repressed gene expression after glucose deprivation. Results show that N-terminal mutations positively affect the protein kinase function and may interact with mutations other than SNF4. Findings also show that conserved threonine residue 210 is vital for SNF1 activity.

Isolation of mutations affecting neural circuitry required for grooming behavior in Drosophila melanogaster
Article Abstract:
Mutant flies with altered grooming behavior, seen as inability to remove a light coating of applied dust in a two-hour period, were recovered and characterized. Six mutants were recovered through the initial screen and were found to have coordination defects or decreased levels of responsiveness to the stimulation. The six mutants exhibiting grooming defects had recessive mutations.
