Does protein structure determine amino acid sequence?

Article Abstract:

David Eisenberg, Roland Luthy and James Bowie came up with a library of protein folds that may predict the amino acid sequence of a protein. They devised a scoring chart that analyzes the environments of residues in proteins based on their primary and secondary structures. The '3D structure profile' may be used to compare proteins with seemingly homologous amino acid sequences for phylogeny and genetic studies.

Persistent biases in the amino acid composition of prokaryotic proteins

Article Abstract:

The analysis of 28 proteomes selected to span the entire realm of prokaryotes has revealed universal biases in the proteins' amino acid distribution. Proteins with similar amino acid composition play similar role or belong to common structures and the finer grain analysis has revealed that neighboring proteins often have common proteins.

Evolution of the cytoskeleton

Article Abstract:

The studies about the evolution of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton from ancestral precursors related to prokaryotic FtsZ and MreB identified a new structure-based sequence alignment for amino acids that are conserved from FtsZ to tubulins.
