Effects of Beauveria bassiana on embryos of the inland silverside fish (Menidia beryllina)

Article Abstract:

Beauveria bassiana is an entomopathogenic fungus currently being tested as a potential insect biocontrol agent. In line with this objective, tests were conducted to determine the effects of conidiospores of B. bassiana on the developing embryos of inland silverside. The results showed that conidiospore concentrations between 8.3 x 10(super 4) to 1.5 x 10(super 6),inclusive, caused significant increases in the incidences of embryo rupture and cell death. Detergent-treated or heat-killed spores did not elicit any adverse effects.

Isolation of polymer-degrading bacteria and characterization of the hindgut bacterial community from the detritus-feeding larvae of Tipula abdominalis (Dipetra: tipulidae)

Article Abstract:

The article explains the isolation of polymer-degrading bacteria and characterization of the hindgut bacterial community from the detritus-feeding larvae of Tipula abdominalis (Dipetra: tipulidae). The community is shown to facilitate the digestion of lignocellulosic diet.

Characterization of a granulovirus isolated from Epinotia aporema Wals. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) larvae

Article Abstract:

The properties of a granulovirus that could be used in the biological control of the soybean shoot borer Epinotia aporema are described. The virus produces a protein that is homologous to other viral granulins.
