Elimination of Mcl-1 is reguired for the initiation of apoptosis following ultraviolet irradiation

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on HeLa cell ultraviolet irradiation which initiates apoptotic response mediated by mitochondria. The authors describe the use of biochemical fractination and reconstitution in mapping a sequential signaling pathway composed of Bcl-2 family members which releases cytochrome c after ultraviolet irradiation treatment.

Omi/HtrA2 catalytic cleavage of inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) irreversibly inactivates IAPs and facilitates caspase activity in apoptosis

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on mitochondrial serine protease Omi/HtrA2 which antagonizes inhibitors of apoptosis via cytosol release. Results demonstrate that Omi/HtrA2 cleaves different inhibitors of apoptosis in vitro, and that cleavage efficiency is determined by its inhibitors of apoptosis-binding motif.

Ceramides modulate programmed cell death in plants

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on ceramide kinase (CERK) mutant. Results have demonstrated that Arabidopsis CERK mutant accumulates CERK substrates and shows disease symptoms during pathogen attack and apoptotic-like cell death.
